In addition to the money received from sending excess power the the grid, your solar panel, wind turbine or green energy generating installation is eligible to claim renewable energy certificates called REGO’s for the green energy produced.
Every 1000KWh or 1MWh of energy you generate is eligible for 1 REGO certificate whether it is used by you or exported to the national grid.
REGOs are accredited, verified and registered by Ofgem and once registered they can be sold within the UK market.
If you are familiar with the concept of carbon credits, REGOs are a comparison in the UK energy sector and explained at the bottom of this page.
Green Energy Claim can help…
- Green Energy Claim, acts as your REGOs Agent
- Green Energy Claim registers your installation and claims the REGOs your installation creates.
- Green Energy Claim then passes these REGOs for sale in the UK marketplace
- You have the option of receiving the funds or directing the funds to plant trees
How much does this cost?
- Green Energy Claim does all the administration and receives no fee unless we are able register, claim and the pass for sale the REGO certificates
- It is hassle free and there are no upfront costs
- The fee for our service is 30% + vat off the sale to market price, which deducted from the sale of your REGOs at the time of disbursement of funds to yourself or tree planting
By directing your funds to tree planting you further help the environment with tangible reinforcement of the carbon reduction cycle.
This is an excellent choice for our business clients who have a tangible CSR outcome.
What is a carbon credit?
Gradually Governments are imposing caps and reductions of the amount of carbon that can be emitted by companies for the services we all use. There are several areas of industry with specific targets and schemes.
Within these capped limits companies use carbon credits to meet their obligations. Once spent or retired a carbon credit cannot be traded or re-used.
Carbon credits can be created for practices, projects and inventions which reduce carbon emissions and are sold to balance carbon emissions.
Specifically in the UK energy sector, Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (certificates) or
REGOs are regulated by Ofgem and are used by utility companies to comply with Fuel Mix Disclosure requirements.
Solar panels, wind turbines and other renewable clean energy generators regardless of size are eligible. They need to be registered and verified with proper accreditation.
What are Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) and why should I claim them?
Ofgem: www.ofgem.gov.uk
• REGOs provide proof that energy being supplied is generated from renewable sources. REGOs are predominantly used for suppliers’ Fuel Mix Disclosure, which is how they tell their customers the source of the energy they supply. Suppliers use REGOs to show how much of the electricity they supply comes from renewable sources.
• As a generator, accreditation under the REGO scheme lets you claim REGO certificates on your renewable generation
Green Energy Claim works for you accredit, verify and claim the REGOs your renewable installation creates by generating clean energy.
Green Energy Claim then passes these REGOs for sale in the UK marketplace.
Funds achieved are then disbursed to our clients, or clients may wish to nominate tree planting disbursement.
Trees, carbon credits and energy…
This is the internationally adopted measure of a carbon credit
1500 trees growing for 1 year
1 MWh of electricity renewable energy (solar, wind etc)
1 tonne CO2 (saved not emitted)
1 carbon credit
Why have I not heard of this before…?
The carbon markets are maturing to regulate carbon emissions globally with regulation in many countries including the United States, Australia and across Europe.
In the United States they are called Solar Renewable Energy Credits SREC
In Australia they are called Renewable Energy Certificates REC
In Europe they are called Guarantees of Origin GOO within the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme EU ETS.
In the UK since we have left the EU, we no longer have GOOs and now have REGOs which are regulated by Ofgem.
Now that the UK market place is standalone, we have no access to the European scheme and have a standalone UK scheme registered and regulated by Ofgem.
To be honest registering for and claiming REGOs is a complex process and small Micro Generators, home owners and small business have been overlooked ……. UNTIL NOW!
We at Green Energy Claim are here to help you increase the revenue from your renewable solar power generation efforts… or… we can work together and plant some trees.
